Why do people make art

WHY, DO YOU THINK, PEOPLE MAKE ART?

I think people make art for several reasons, they can make art as a hobby, as a job, carrier, and just because they enjoy drawing and making art. I find that people can make art when ever, were ever they want and for any reason. They can make art in different places as a view, as a peaceful place, inspiration, or just because. There are many reason why people make art and some are those that people would not necessarily think of but to them its a good enough reason, and that's why answering this question is a challenge, but those reasons that i mentioned are ones that i can think of and that my cousins that are artist have said in general.

Reflecting on the 4 Hour Project.

The more you write, the more I know about what you think, the better I can assess your learning so...write a lot. Be descriptive.

The way i went about the project was i remembered the poor painting project we did and decided to do that again, after i decided to do the poor painting and then i didn't know what to draw on top of it so i decided to draw random items. So i just thought of fun crazy things that would go well with the poor paintings. Then after i drew them in my sketch book i picked out what i liked and then drew it on top of the painting after it dried.

The Book Project...progress and planning.

What's the story you're trying to tell?

  • The story i am trying to tell is that of a women who's brother is an alcoholic, it is one were the sister is a big time lawyer and her brother is always calling on her to help him out but yet he keeps making the same mistakes over and over. Final the sister has had enough because she is constantly helping out her brother she hasn't really been able to buy and achieve all her goals.
what challenges have you faced so far?
  • The challenges that i have faced are more with the verbal talking that i wanted to have.
What's going well?
  • so far the i am doing well trying to put the pieces and people together the way i planned, i also am making sure that the backgrounds and the people relate or in some way relate to the topic.
What isn't?
  • more the placement and the organization is a little challenging, also trying to keep to the topic, story.

Shades of gray.

  • The goals for today's drawings were to draw form observation and start by erase some of the black. and then make the objects on the table and then make, use five different shads of gray in the picture.
  • I achieved these goals very well because i completed the drawing and had 5 different shads of gray very well.
  • The challenges that i faced while doing this assaignment in class was using the different shades of gray with the objects becuase alot of the objects were white or a light color. there for i had a little trouble. but i just did what i could and i think it came out really good.

Studying Nighthawks

  • Title: Nighthawks.
  • The artist's name: Edward Hopper.
  • Where is the artist form: Nyack, New York State
  • The year it was made: 1942
  • What medium was used to make the work: paint.
2. Write your first impressions of the painting. What do you see?
  • I see a dinner a few people a street and stores on the other side of the street, i also see the way the light in the dinner and the street light hit the side walk. i see the writing on the top of the dinner, and the coffee cups in side on the counter.
3. Do a little research on this painting (there's lots of info on the web about it). Try clicking here or here if you need a little help. Who was Edward Hopper? Why did he make this painting? What is it really all about?
  • The painting was inspired by a restaurant in New York on Greenwich avenue, the dinner was destroyed. this painting shows three lonely customers at a dinner late one night all lost in there own thoughts. Some believe that this painting shows the loneliness of a large city late one night.
4. Now...as we study the principles of design this week add your analysis of the painting to your post. Describe HOW the artist uses The Principles of Design to communicate his ideas. Be as specific as you can in your description.

  • This artist uses the light to balance out the picture and the placing of the picture depends on the light. also he draws you in by using the lighting as a line to view the people and the street corner.

Finding images that are balanced.

This shows the symmetry balance because you can cut it in half and its the same. therefore the balance is focused on the middle of the picture.

The light beams on 5 different areas which balances out the brightness and the area of where it hits.

The objects on the left make yup for the light coming through the window and hitting the girls face.

two men on each side make the picture balance towards the middle.

The Principles of design

1. The principles of design
- are rules that are hopefully made to be broken at some point.
2.Balance: is when the visual weight of the art work
- symmetry: When you draw a shape it means its the same on the left as it is on the right.

-approximately symmetrical: Its almost symmetry but there are few objects that are different.

- Radial: It doesn't matter were you draw the line its still the same top and bottom

3. Emphasis
- placement: were artist place things matter.
-contrast: the color, shape, design are different.
- grouping: when an artist decides to put a bunch of elements they want to focus on.

4. rhythm& movement
-repetition
- same element
-alternating elements: is you can change the color and shapes.
-progression: is a repeated element that gets from small to large or large to small.
- leading lines: there are lines that lead yo to take different paths.
- implied movement
- optical movement
-actual movement

5. Proportion
- size relationships with in the picture.
-color -shapes -forms
- when your thinking about proportion in your work is emotion, story or the way it looks.

6. Unity
- we are using these principles of design anmd everything works together.
7. verity

Reflecting at mid-term.

Through out the first term I think i made great progress because i enjoy making and creating art I also started the term really excited because were weren't getting any homework but once we got the first homework assignment I thought the class was corny but after we were getting homework i started to see how it was not hard and was short. I also made progress because in the penguin project I didn't really like what some of my classmates drew on the paper. But i got over the fact of what they did, i looked at the final project and it wasn't what i really had in mind. I also made progress bye working with Sophia on both the robot BOB and the race car track. We worked good together and made two really cool sculptures.

Reflecting on Found Object Sculptures.

BOB was inspired from Sophia's mettle heater, which we had no clue what to use it for. Then we started talking and looked at the materials we both had and decided to create bob the robot. We used many different shapes and patterns and colors to create bob and as you can see it came great.

In your own words, describe what the goals for today's drawing were.

The goals for today were to draw from observation and it we had to draw quick with, draw how the light was hitting the different bags with the different objects in them. We also drew for about 35 min, and had to make the bags look like they either had hard or soft materials in them.

How well did you achieve these goals?
I achieved this goal fairly well and I think i drew the objects in the bag with expression. an example of that is i drew the objects that had a soft material in them with more of a gray and soft color and vise verse

The Potential of Found Objects

In other words how or why did the artists choose the objects they did? Use specific examples from the pictures below.
I think the that the materials the artists used to sculpt with were chosen because they were inspiring and sparked an idea within the artist. It could also be that those were the only supplies available at that time.

The work of Ingrid Calame

Who Ingrid Calame is

Ingird Calame is an artist that tried to make her own drawing out of there drawings that she had traced and adds her own thought and perception on it to make it her own.

HOW she makes her paintings

She makes her paintings by tracing, coping other peaces of art that are messed up of really cool graffiti tags. After she traces the different makings she goes back to the studio and places them over each other to see what they form. Then she colors them in with color pencil and then makes another drawing and paints it.

WHY she makes her paintings the way she does

She makes her paintings the way she does because she enjoys taking shapes from all forms and sizes and creating something new using those shapes. Also as a little girl she wanted to make drawings of what she thought the world looked like and know shes making similar paintings.

reflecting on week 1

What do all these activities have in common?

In all the activities we did this week we tried to limit the amount of control we had over the pieces. We also used and a had a lot of free creative art time which was good, for example with the pour paint we were able to mix and create what we wanted. I enjoy having art classes were its more free and kinda create or fun specific stuff.
mean in detail.

Re-visiting obervation/description activity

What worked was the description of shapes and some description of objects.

what did not work was not being able to tell what who were and when with details. Also not being able to give details of the background or clothing.

over all the shape description was good the location not so much.

Givign up control

Describe the process of creating paintings through pouring paint you experienced today. How did it work?
This art class was fun because I was able to make different things and to make the paint and not try to draw any really shapes or pictures. I also enjoyed not getting dirty but making cool art work

How did it FEEL to give up some control over the shapes you created? Describe any surprises.
It felt good to work with art you had no controle over.

collabertive drawing

How does someone else working on your drawing add or take away from your drawing?

When I started my drawing I pictured two little penguins on there way to school it was snowing and they were almost there. When i got back to my drawing i saw a penguine covered in "snow" and the other had a lot of snow on his back. I didn't really like what i saw because it was not what i had in mind so I took off the snow and tried to paint the penguin back to its color

what i think bout art

What makes someone an artist?
An artist is someone who can look at something and want to draw paint or take a picture of it. Also and artist is someone that has a passion for art or photography. Also an artist is someone who does sculpture and many other forms or art.

What does it mean to be creative?
To be creative is to think, do and wear things people would most likely not do. Also to be creative is to think out side the box. An artist also needs to put in there taste and point of view on any project they are working on.

Describe at least 3 or 4 things an artist needs to be creative and productive?

A sense for different things, look at things in different views, think outside the box on art, and lastly and artist needs to be passionate about his or her work.
